Why Fabric Quality Matters — How to Spot Real Premium Clothing

When you pick up a piece of clothing, how do you know if it is actually premium — or just priced that way? In Pakistan's growing menswear market, fabric quality is the biggest differentiator between a brand worth your money and one that is not.

Here is what to look for.

1. Fabric Composition — The First Thing to Check

Always check the label. The fabric composition tells you what the garment is made of and how it will feel and last over time.

  • 100% Cotton — Breathable, soft, and ideal for everyday wear. Look for combed or ring-spun cotton, which is stronger and smoother than regular cotton.
  • Cotton / Polyester blends — An 80/20 or 70/30 blend gives you cotton's softness with polyester's shape-retention. Ideal for activewear and hoodies.
  • Cotton / Lycra blends — The addition of 2-5% Lycra or Spandex gives stretch and flexibility. Standard in quality denim and performance wear.
  • French Terry — A looped cotton fabric that is softer than standard jersey. Excellent for shorts and sweatshirts.

2. Construction Details

Premium garments show quality in their stitching and finishing:

  • Double-stitched seams — Look at stress points like waistbands and armholes. Double or reinforced stitching means the garment holds up under movement.
  • Ribbed cuffs and hems — On hoodies and sweatshirts, ribbed edges hold their shape better than plain-cut hems.
  • Anti-shrink finishing — Quality brands pre-treat fabrics to resist shrinkage after washing. If a brand does not mention this, ask.

3. Finishing Touches

Look at the small details — they reveal how much effort went into the garment:

  • Embroidery quality — clean, tight stitching with no loose threads
  • Print durability — HD prints that do not crack or peel after washing
  • Hardware quality — metal buttons and eyelets rather than plastic

Why This Matters at Markhor Lifestyle

At MLS, we do not cut corners on fabric. Our hoodies are made from 80/20 cotton-polyester fine gauge knit with silicone wash finishing. Our denim uses ring-spun 98% Cotton / 2% Lycra with reinforced waistbands and metal hardware. Our organic cotton shirts are sourced from Italian fabric with 2-ply construction for durability.

We mention fabric composition on every product because we believe you deserve to know exactly what you are wearing.
